Coats & Clark Student Competition

This weekend also saw a great competition take place in The Fashion School – the Coats & Clark sponsored student competition.  Thanks so much to Nancy Jewell, New Markets Director for Coats & Clark; Dr. Sherry Schofield Tomschin; and Linda Ohrn-McDaniel for organizing this great event!

Approximately 30 students signed up to participate in this project runway-like competition, in which they were given 5 yards of a printed fabric and trim at 8am on Saturday morning, and had to have a completed design using as much of the materials as possible by 4pm on Sunday.

The results were fabulous!   There was a great range of diversity of approaches to dealing with what I would have called “difficult” fabrics, showing strength in pattern conceptualization, silhouette, fabric manipulation and construction.  All of the details and award winners will be announced in an upcoming press release, but in the meantime have a look at a few photos of the event that I took with my phone…

Congratulations to all!
